Be Wise

“Be Wise” 2002

Had I your intelligence
I’d use it wisely.
I would carve a pretty face
in alabaster,
as smooth as my reflection,
with eyes of cool jade.

I would apologize for
not loving me, and
say, “Another man will,
one stronger than me.”
If I don’t wait forever,
what will you lose?
